A coming-of-age story, told from the unique perspective of a strong, unrelenting female protagonist, Mickey and the Bear marks actress Annabelle Attanasio’s directorial debut. Headstrong teenager Mickey Peck (Camila Morrone) navigates a loving but volatile relationship with her veteran father (James Badge Dale). Faced with the day to day responsibility of keeping her household afloat while her father falls apart, Mickey secretly fantasizes of going to college on the west coast, and finally living life on her own terms. When Hank’s controlling, jealous behavior turns destructive, Mickey must decide between familial obligation and personal fulfillment as she puts everything on the line to claim her own independence. Rated R. 88 minutes.

Filmed in Anaconda, Montana in 2018 and following its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in 2019,Mickey and the Bear returns home to Montana audiences December 2-13th. The Montana Film Festival Roadshow Tour kicks off on December 2, 2019 in Billings, and makes stops in Livingston, Bozeman, Butte, Anaconda, Deer Lodge, Missoula, Helena, and Kalispell. Writer/director Annabelle Attanasio, producer Lizzie Shapiro, and co-producer Jeri Rafter will be in attendance for select screenings, including Bozeman. A filmmakers reception follows the Bozeman screening at the Squire House.

It stars James Badge Dale, Calvin Demba, Camila Morrone, Ben Rosenfield and Rebecca Henderson. Currently in limited release, the film is receiving critical praise, RogerEbert.com film critic Brian Tallerico writing, “There’s undeniable emotional resonance in Annabelle Attanasio’s Mickey and the Bear”, while Film Threats’ Bobby LePire cheers “Bolstered by a phenomenal cast and an ending that will leave the audience breathless, there is not a single misstep in the entire production.” Rated R, the film runs 88 minutes.
