Whale Rider – Science on Screen
Tuesday, June 20 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm$5.00
An award-winning story of love, rejection and triumph as a young Maori girl fights to fulfill a destiny her grandfather refuses to recognize. Set against a backdrop of the boundless New Zealand landscape and tantalizing ocean photography. Whale Rider is a beautiful illustration of the power of myths to adapt.
Part of the 2017 Science on Screen (SoS) film series, guest speakers Gianna Savoie, an environmental biologist, filmmaker and Executive Director of Ocean Media Institute, along with MSU Professor Dr. Michael Reidy, whose historical research interests include science and technology, mountaineering, and oceans, will open the evening with ‘Waves of Change: Myth, History, and Culture in Ocean Science,’ a lively introduction geared towards all ages.
Science on Screen® is underwritten by a generous grant from the Coolidge Corner Foundation and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
